Interested in telenursing?
I get lots of emails from nurses who have found my blog and are curious about telenursing. I must admit I have a pretty great gig working from the comfort of my own home and doing something that I really enjoy. I thought I would add a page for those of you who would like to know more about my job.
I work for Healthlink BC which is located in British Columbia, Canada. I have been doing telenursing for about 7 years now. For the first 4 years I worked in the call centre, but in 2008 I was chosen as part of a pilot project studying the possibility of nurses being able to work primarily from their homes. The pilot ended after 18 months and Work From Home became permanent for myself and several of the other nurses from the project. Hopefully, there will be funding for more nurses to join us in the future. I still work a couple of shifts a month at the call centre, just to keep in touch with everyone and check in.
Telenursing is a fast-growing area of nursing. Try doing a search for telenursing, telephone advice nursing or teletriage in your area. I know there are many US states, Canadian provinces and other countries that have telephone advice line services. Some of them offer work from home- you just have to do some investigating to find them.
If you live in the lower mainland of BC and you’d like to learn more about Healthlink BC and a possible career as a telenurse (or other careers in the organization) check out the website here:

I'm Helen. I'm a wife and mom and I work from home as a telephone advice nurse. 'Triage' is from a french word meaning 'to sort'.
In nursing, it means to determine the level of urgency of care needed- so I'm a sorter of sorts:-)
In my free time, I like to bake and do home projects, like painting (walls, not pictures) My current passion is making handmade soaps and other bath and body goodies.
