Ok, check out this irony. I had my annual screening mammogram 2 days ago. This evening I got a call from an x-ray clinic I’ve never heard of asking me to call them back because I need to make an appointment with them. I wasn’t connecting it to my mammogram because I’ve recently had a few tests done on my kidneys so I wondered if it might be something related to that.

So, I called back and they said they received a letter from the screening mammogram clinic that I needed a diagnostic mammogram done for some more views. Of course, they won’t give me ANY information, so I booked the appointment (which isn’t until April 20th) and I can’t reach my doctor’s office because they are closed for the day. Hopefully I’ll be able to get hold of my doctor in the morning to tell me what this is all about.

Prayers for me would really be appreciated…or just good thoughts. I’m scared.

Update: I just did a bit more reading about mammograms and it says it’s quite common to be called back for different views. Going to try not to get ahead of myself here. Deep breaths.

More Update: I called my doctor’s office yesterday and the nurse told me they want to take the new views because the screening mammo showed ‘asymetrical density’ which can just mean uneven pressure during the exam. It was also marked as ‘low suspicion’ , so I am feeling much better about it and I’m glad they are being careful and double-checking!

Here is my test batch of Boobie Cupcakes. What do you think? I am planning to sell cookies and cupcakes at my big garage sale next month as another way to fundraise for my breast cancer walk. I wanted something fun, cute and consistent with the day’s theme. It was a bit of a fuss to get the skin colour looking right, not sure I got it and I don’t think this picture even shows the colours correctly, but I could always try different skin tones as well. Now that I’ve made them, I wonder if they might be a little too racy for a G-rated weekend garage sale. Perhaps I should do something more like these cupcakes.

Jon tells me that he knows some folks who might be interested in buying some boobies for the cause, so I may still have a market out there somewhere for these (they tasted pretty good too) Of course, they will have to be sold in pairs!

I had another idea to raise funds for my Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk. I read somewhere that doing a garage sale could be quite profitable. Drawing from my idea of having auctions on my blog of donated items, I decided to try to gather up donated items to sell at my garage sale. I posted ads on Craigslist, and took flyers out to the entire neighbourhood asking for donations of unwanted stuff. My garage is filling up rather quickly, mostly from folks who have seen my craisglist postings! In fact, I’m a little worried about how much time it’s going to take me to sort through everything and price it all for the sale.
I’ve been toying of the idea of having it be entirely ‘by donation’, that is; not putting specific prices on items. It would be so much easier for me, but I’m worried about getting enough back in donations to make it all worth doing. Any suggestions on how to make the pricing easier? I just have no idea what prices to put on things. Here are some ideas I found while doing research on how to have a successful sale:

1) Putting out small lunch bags near boxes of small items and selling “bagfuls” for a set price. Something like “all you can fit into a bag for $5.00 minimum donation”
Perhaps with clothing I’ll do the same thing with larger plastic grocery bags.

2) Leaving out a large, clear donations bottle for cash donations.

3) Making clear signs stating where the proceeds are going and that it is all for charity.

4) Making Pink Awareness-Ribbon Cookies and offering a free cookie for every purchase over a certain amount. Also selling the cookies

5) Selling PINK helium balloons

Any other ideas??

I did it!! Today, I registered to walk 60km over 3 days in August to raise money for breast cancer research. I have been thinking about doing this walk for several years, but was always put off by the seemingly HUGE task of trying to raise at least $2000 in donations.
This year, I’m pretty sure with the help of my blog and twitter that I can do it! I’m open to ideas as well.
My first idea is to ask for donations of items I can promote and sell via ‘auction style’ bidding here on the blog. I will post up one item per week and take bids all week. Bids can be made by leaving a comment under the posting of the item you are interested in. The item will be sold to the highest bidder and all funds will be collected directly via my personal online donation page at the Weekend to End Breast Cancer website. That way, I don’t have to handle the funds at all and bidders can feel comfortable in knowing the funds are going directly to the cause! The items will be sent out directly by the person donating them- just like during a normal blog giveaway.

Please let me know if you’d like to help by donating a product. I will promote you and your shop and will require bidders to visit your shop to choose their favorite items when they are bidding.

If you’d like to make a direct money donation to help me, you can donate directly here. The first 5 people to donate will get a free Juicybags coin purse! Leave me a comment on this post after you’ve made your donation and I’ll connect with you for a shipping address:-)

I’ll be walking in honor of my aunt, Sharon who died much too young from breast cancer. She wasn’t there to attend her daughters’ weddings, or to meet the 4 grandchildren they have had since she died. She didn’t get to meet my wonderful husband or to come to my wedding either.
I also walk in honor of my father, Frank who died of cancer a few months before my aunt and has been gone for 10 years now. He missed so much too.

I miss them both very much and I hope by walking in this event, the money I raise can help to prevent other people from missing out on great times with their friends and family.
Let’s find a cure for breast cancer SOON!
